COLONEL MARSHALL A. COLO UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS RESERVE (RETIRED) November 16, 1930 – March 14, 2006
Colonel Marshall A. Colo, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve (Retired) succumbed to his long battle with cancer on March 14, 2006. Colonel Colo was one of the co-founders of the Wine Country Marines and a member of the Wine Country Marine Corps Birthday Ball Committee.
Colonel Colo was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 16, 1930 to William Fisher Colo and Golda Hermanda Johnes. His two sons, Christopher Allen Colo and Marshall Clay Colo, preceded him in death. Colonel Colo graduated from Fresno High School in 1949 and attended Fresno State College until he entered the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 18 years. He served proudly in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. A natural leader of men, he rose from the ranks and retired as a Colonel. As a “Leatherneck,” he earned many commendations and medals during his 40 years of service to his country.
Colonel Colo was also an International Businessman, working for MacGaw Edison and Soule Steel in the Middle East. Extremely will traveled, he was a member of the Explorers Club in San Francisco, and he was one of the first U.S. Marine Corps members of the Queen's Club. Reading was one of his greatest enjoyments, and he amassed a huge collection of books on history, world religions and the military.
His son; James Eric Colo, his daughter, Cynthia Colo, his granddaughter; Erica Colo, his brother; James Alton Colo; his dear friend; Anneliese Rockrise and his beloved dog “Missy” survive him.
